OCMM is diligent and persistent in its work to protect, preserve and promote the rights of our children

SHANTI WALKS

Shanti (meaning peace) walk is a non violent direct action campaign where volunteers and supporters can walk for several miles, raise awareness and give our children a voice where it is needed most. After completing two successful Shanti Walks in Texas and California, OCMM has proven that our communities are committed to addressing the urgent need for our children’s voices to be heard in overall advocacy work.

The Texas Shanti Walk was undertaken by parents, volunteers and even our animal friends in Jan 2021. Shanti Walkers completed a 150 mile walk from Brownwood Texas to The Texas State Capitol in Austin over a period of six days. The Shanti Walk was as much a community healing exercise as it was a statement of the determination, personal inner strength and community strength of Shanti Walkers for our childrens rights.

In California, Shanti Walkers displayed the same commitment by walking over 120 miles along the beautiful California coast line to the Capitol building. Shanti Walks are an effective way to garner the attention of the community, media and law makers for the dialogue of change to occur. These walks have proven to be a healing exercise for not only those involved but also those who witnessed the Shanti Walkers undertake this non violent direct action steps.

Shanti Walk in Las Vegas 2022

Earlier this year our Executive Director, Riti Chikkerur, met with Jason D'Souza and others in Las Vegas to discuss the urgent need to reform Protective Orders and other methods used by the Family Courts to unlawfully separate parents and children.

Later that day the group marched around the Las Vegas Strip and enjoyed a strong showing of support from locals and tourists.

Jason D’Souza - Shanti Walker

“I Shanti Walked 170 miles in Texas and California for my son. I would walk 5000 more to be a Father to my son.

Shanti Walking was a healing experience for me unlike any other protest or march”

Right now, our children’s voices are being unheard and we live in fear as a society as our children are unsafe from gun violence, constitutional/civil right violations in Family Courts and unsavory media/propaganda leading our children into unsafe situations.

Your gift will enable our work to protect our children living through abuse, exploitation and neglect.
